Camp Howdy offers a summer of weekly day camps that teach kids to ride and care for horses. Based on CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) instruction, each session includes mounted lessons, lectures on horsemanship theory and safety, horse related crafts and activities, as well as an introduction to the wholesome ranch life. Campers participate with pride in the routine hands on care and handling of horses and find out what it really means to own a horse.
Kids ages 6 to 15, beginner through intermediate, will love Camp Howdy. Each session is five days. Group numbers are small, so book early.
At the start of each session, campers are evaluated, matching mounts and lesson plans to the ability of the individual.
Camp Howdy provides a comprehensive riding and care program including:
OUR GOAL~TO SHARE A UNIQUE HORSE CAMP EXPERIENCE
One week or more of absolute fun in a safe, wholesome and supportive environment
where campers experience adventure and inspiration while building character
and confidence. The instruction and activities at this camp will challenge
and improve each campers riding skills. Lessons emphasize communication using
the four natural aids to control the horse. We focus on developing the proper
body alignment, balance, independent seat in each rider. Fully supervised,
individual attention and foremost of all, safety is foundational to our riding
program, where we aim to produce competent riders who appreciate and practice
with intelligence and competence, all aspects of sound horsemanship. Campers
will learn through fun and meet new friends! We believe that horses are good
for people and if properly educated, people can be good for horses! We find
that lessons learned working with horses help develop skills that last a lifetime.
For the seriously "horse crazy", we highly recommend
two or more sessions. Subsequent lessons will foster a closer union between
horse and handler. The first week of camp is very active in their learning
stages of new things, where lesson plans with goals are designed for each class
that builds on one another. This gives the student self confidence in accomplishment
with every lesson and a greater sense of responsibility. Repetition in the
second week will commit to memory, whilst building on newly acquired skills.
Each session of camp is a week long, Monday through Friday, three hours a day. Cost is $200 per session per rider. There is a $50 non-refundable deposit to hold child’s place in session (credited towards the session fee). Multiple camp discounts available. We are located right off I-5 near the north Ashland exit. Use our registration form on-line or call Leslie at (541) 482-1508. It is our genuine hope that our campers will become life-long horse enthusiasts with memories that last a lifetime.
